VIE D’AILLEURS
2023

Vie d’Ailleurs is a sculptural work that embodies the collection and materialization of the essence of clouds, created by Marie-Luce Nadal. The artist dedicates herself to capturing natural phenomena, gathering this essence through regular practice to redistribute it into enclosed environments called “Eoloriums.” This specific piece, created in 2022, results from the collection of dark soil and a dense cloud in Cambodia. The sculpture presents a captive cloud in perpetual motion, framed by discreet machinery hidden from the viewer’s sight, which regulates its appearance and disappearance. The internal atmosphere changes dynamically—oxidizing, clouding over, or clearing up—shaped by external environmental conditions. The term “Eolorium” is a neologism invented by the artist, combining “Aeolus,” the Greek god of winds, and the Latin suffix “-arium.” This sculpture functions as a cloud aquarium, enclosing a fragment of earth and a microcosm where air masses condense into filaments, creating ephemeral transformations temporarily preserved within this installation.
