MUAGES
2017
Muages is an in situ installation created during a residency in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. In collaboration with local farmers from the nearby causse, sheep fleeces were gathered, washed in the Calvignac washhouse, untangled, and bleached according to an ancestral method described by the artist’s great-grandfather. Plowshares, handheld plows once used to uproot underground roots in agricultural fields, were found on-site and then turned skyward, suggesting a suspended threat in their stance.
On these structures, the prepared fleeces were placed, transforming into Cloudmorphs, light, earthly clouds anchored in the landscape.
