OPEN WINDOW
2019
Open Window is a cloud collected by Marie-Luce Nadal during the Notre Dame de Paris fire in 2019.
Preserved since then in a transparent glass tank, the cloud never stops evolving and transforming into flames and wisps of mist. Sensitive to light and temperature, it reacts to its environment.
Like an archivist, Marie-Luce Nadal captures the ephemeral to protect it from the passage of time.
With this sculpture, the artist establishes a parallel with what the Notre Dame fire taught us: the volatility of heritage.
